My first Fire Eagle badge!

I have not messed with Fire Eagle that much since it was officially released a couple months ago so I figured it was my time.  In the App Gallery, I decided to go with a website that uses your Yahoo account info to create a badge that can be embedded anywhere on the web...Fire Eagle Badge for more info.  When I update my location in Fire Eagle all my FE Apps should update too!  How useful is this?  How are other folks using this technology?

Update... Fire Eagle Badge does not work in IE so it had to be removed.

Quick Interactive Flash Map!

I have been experimenting with FLEX and MXML and have come up with a pretty quick way to compile an Actionscript or other javascript to be placed in any website or blog.

1. Download the FLEX SDK
2. Create your MXML File. I copied some code from the Yahoo Maps! website and pasted it in to the CDATA tags in my MXML file. Don't forget to download the swc file from Yahoo to link against in your build!
3. Compile your SWF and plug it in to a website or PDF (Now available with Acrobat 9.0). To learn more about compiling the code, check out this link.

Now that I have my swf file, I can plug this in to a website or blog, I can embed it in to a document to use as a quick reference, or convert it to an AIR app and deploy it to run on my desktop. All of this was done in less than 10 minutes!

Yahoo Pipes Blog Mashup

I finally figured this Yahoo Pipes thing out! Apparently, it's been out for a little more than a year now and I have yet to learn about all that it can do. So, after some brief exploration on this Yahoo website I put together a quick mashup of all the geospatial blogs I have found to be interesting over the years. The interface is easy to use and pretty quick to publish the RSS feeds I found on The Map Room website. I think for a future version of this application, I am going to create a mashup that also plots these RSS feeds out to a Yahoo Map. I am not exactly sure how to go about doing this but I think Pipes allows you to geocode the text from each feed. We'll see!!!

Tune back in later to see if I can ever get this to work as an actual mapping widget.
